Jay Bartlett has grown up as a student of Master Jewellery and was involved in the industry long before he joined Bartlett Master Jewellers, and his father, in 1993.

Jay’s introduction to the industry began as a young child, looking over his father’s shoulder, watching him design and manufacture pieces of jewellery for his valued customers. From there it was a natural progression to follow in his father’s footsteps and continue the tradition and craftsmanship of a Master Jeweller.

With a unique opportunity to excel under his father’s guidance Jay has gone onto to receive some of the jewellery industry’s highest qualifications.

He completed his apprenticeship in both Townsville and Brisbane under the guidance of some of Australia’s most highly regarded Manufacturing Jewellers. Since becoming a qualified Jeweller, Jay has travelled and worked extensively throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia, gaining valuable skills and a taste for the European Jewellery fashions.

Jay is a fully qualified Gemmologist and a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Australia, of which he been a member of since 2003. In 2006 Jay was awarded a Certificate IV in Gemmological Studies.

He has also completed his Certificate in Diamond Grading and Advanced Certificate in Diamond Grading with the Gemmological Association of Australia. Both qualifications were achieved under the instruction of Bill Sechos who is considered to be one of Australia’s leading diamond experts.

In 2007 Jay was qualified as a registered Valuer and is a current member of the National Council of Jewellery Valuers (NCJV). Members of the National Council of Jewellery Valuers (NCJV) are highly skilled experts, bound by a code of ethics that protects the customer and upholds high quality standards.

After demonstrating a high proficiency as a professional Gold & Silversmith in 2008 Jay was invited to become a member of the Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia.

In 2009 Jay was successful in achieving an Accredited Diploma of Gemmological Studies. This is a highly-regarded qualification within the jewellery industry and was awarded to Jay after years of dedication towards his studies and an intense examination process.
Jay was one of only five people in Queensland, and the only person outside of south-east Queensland to have achieved this title.

In 2010 Jay was awarded an internationally recognised Diploma of Diamond Grading by the HRD Antwerp Institute of Gemmology. HRD Antwerp represent quality, tradition and the highest industry standards.

Building on the Diploma in Gemmology, and proving an in-depth understanding of diamonds, Jay was awarded a Diploma in Diamond Technology by the Gemmological Association of Australia in 2017.

Jay successfully achieved a Diploma of Applied Gemmology in 2021. This qualification is designed and developed to produce highly-skilled valuation professionals and focuses on the knowledge and skills required in the practice of appraising gem materials and jewellery items for quality assessments and valuations in the gem, jewellery and allied trades industry.
